Melissa L. Nardi, 46, of Claysville, Pa. died Monday, November 23, 2015 in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa. following complications from open heart surgery.
She was born December 22, 1968 in Pittsburgh a daughter of Ferdinand (Fred) James Merlino, Jr. and Cora Mae Kitts Merlino of Zeleinople, Pa.
Mrs. Nardi had resided in West Alexander, Pa. from 1991 until moving to Claysville in 2004.
She was a 1986 graduate of Senaca Valley High School, and earned a post graduate degree from Slippery Rock University.
Mrs. Nardi was a member of the West Alexander Presbyterian Church where she had been employed as the church secretary for the past four years.
She was a very active member and supporter of many McGuffey community area band and sports programs, a Band Mom with the McGuffey High School Marching Band, an officer in the McGuffey Soccer Boosters, McGuffey Youth Soccer, Claysville and West Alexander P.T.A.s, and a master organizer of many youth fund raising efforts in the McGuffey area.
Mrs. Nardi enjoyed scrapbooking, arts and crafts, baking and enjoyed her Bunco club nights, and was an avid Garth Brooks fan, attending concerts on several occasions.
She was a former employee of Community Bank, the former Campsey Seed and Feed and Curtis Pharmacy, all in Claysville, and the former Continental Plastics.
On June 30, 1990 she married Stephen Thomas Nardi who survives.
Also surviving in addition to her parents and husband are four sons, Christopher, husband of Morgan Nardi of Meadville, Matthew T., Austin L. and Blake F. Nardi, all at home; four sisters, Debbie Pullen of Culpepper, Va., Susan Brennan of Cranberry Twp., Jennifer, wife of Bill Reddy of Etna and Kelli, wife of Wes Martin of Sarver; several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in the West Alexander Presbyterian Church where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015 with Rev. Keith Hornung officiating. Private interment will be held in Claysville Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the McGuffey Band Boosters, c/o McGuffey High School, 86 McGuffey Drive, Claysville, Pa. 15323 or the Claysville V.F.D., PO Box 435, Claysville, Pa. 15323.
