William "Joe" J. Simms

William “Joe” J. Simms, age 82, of Wind Ridge, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2026, in his home surrounded by his family.

Born September 4, 1944, in Aleppo, son of the late Genieve Lulu Anderson - Simms.

Joe had been a Greene County resident all of his life. He married Violet V. Blake on February 22, 1969, and they were happily married for 50 years until her passing on November 29, 2019. Joe was an Army Veteran, drafted during the Vietnam War in 1965. He was employed with Consol Energy as a Motorman for 32 years until his retirement in 2002. Joe was a member of the Cameron Legion Post 18. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, most of all his grandchildren, and hunting when he was younger. Joe was an avid Steelers fan.

He is survived by two children, Debra (John) Fitzgerald, of Moundsville, WV and John Wayne Simms, of Cameron, WV; five grandchildren, Kayla (John Nice) Fitzgerald, Grace (Dylan) Coulter, Liana, John, and Corey Simms; four great grandchildren, Karalyne, Greyson, and Klayton, and Brynlee; one brother, Austin (Barbara) Simms, of Waynesburg; sisters-in-law, Anna Simms, Kate Simms, Jeanetta Simms, Doris Archabold, Peggy Hughes, and Ruby Witherow.

In addition to his mother and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, William “Joey” Simms, Jr. and six siblings, Lillian Smith, Tex Simms, Willis Simms, Richard Simms, Halford Simms, and Allan Lee Simms.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC. 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy PO Box 434 Rogersville, PA 15359. Telephone: 724-499-5181. A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the funeral home with Corey Simms, officiating. Burial will follow at Centennial Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the United States Army and the Greene County Honor Guard.
