Richard (Dick) L. Palmer, 62, of Aleppo Twp. Greene Co. Pa. died unexpectedly at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008 from injuries received in a farm accident. He was born October 10, 1945 in New Martinsville, W.Va. a son of Josephine Vandine Palmer of Morgantown, W.Va. and the late Guy Palmer and had resided in Hookstown, Beaver County, Pa. prior to moving to Greene Co. in 1971. Mr. Palmer was a former member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Cameron, W.Va. where he served as the church Eucharist and church manager and was a current member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Waynesburg. He was a 1963 graduate of Southside Beaver High School. Mr. Palmer was a veteran of the Viet Nam War where he served as a sergeant with the U. S. Army and last assigned to Battery B 8th MSL BN 1st Artillery. He was formerly employed as a mechanic with Consol (Ireland Mine) in Moundsville, W.Va. and the former Bissett Oil Company in New Freeport and was last employed as a driller with Tri-County Oil and Gas prior to retiring in 1986. Mr. Palmer was an avid fisherman and following his retirement became known as a "jack of all trades, master of none" and enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family and grandchildren. On May 18, 1966 he married Helen Elaine Clark who survives. Also surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two daughters, Nicki, wife of Charles McGowan of Holbrook, Pa. and MaryJo, wife of Donald W. Yoders of Glen Easton, W.Va.; a brother, Thomas L. Palmer of Carmichaels, Pa.; a sister, Loretta Mitchell of Morgantown, W.Va.; ten grandchildren, D.J., Travis, Ashley and Hunter Yoders, Toby Hughes, Char, Tera and Rory McGowan, Wade Blackmon and Paige Palmer; two great grandchildren, Taylee Yoders and Keisha McGowan. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Cameron Varsity Wrestling, c/o of Jim Potts, BBT, 21 Main St., Cameron, W.Va. 26033.
