It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James H. Reed, who peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 27, 2026 at the age of 82.
Born in Clarion County, on June 20, 1944. James spent most of his life in Greene County, where he built not only a career but a life centered on faith, family, hardwork, and friendship. He dedicated many years to the construction and concrete industry before concluding his career with the Greene County Housing Authority. Throughout his life, James was known for his strong worth ethnic, dependability, and willingness to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.
Retirement gave James the opportunity to enjoy the simple things he loved most. He found great satisfaction in hunting, woodworking, crafting, tending his garden, and spending quiet moments reading his bible. These hobbies reflected the patience, creativity, and steadfast faith that defined the way he lived his life.
James was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and great grandfather, cherished brother, and faithful friend. He shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Joetta Reed, until her passing on July 24, 2017. Together they built a family rooted in faith, unconditional love, and unwavering devotion.
Nothing brought James greater joy than his family. He led not through words alone, but by the example of his kindness, quiet strength, humility, and unconditional love. He always placed the needs of others before his own, offering gentle guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support. His family will forever treasure the countless memories they shared together; especially the laughter, friendly competition, and cherished traditions of family game night that became some of life's most treasured moments.
James had a warm smile, generous heart, and a welcoming spirit that made everyone feel at home. Whether sharing a story, offering wise advice, or simply being present when someone needed him, he touched countless lives through his compassion and quiet wisdom.
A long time member of the Waynesburg Moose Lodge, James treasured the friendships he built there over the years. He enjoyed stopping in to visit with friends, signing the book, sharing stories, and relaxing with a cold beverage. Those simple gatherings brought him great happiness and reflected his appreciation for community and fellowship.
James is lovingly survived by his children, James H. (Mary) Reed, II., Joelle (Gregg) McNeely, and Jennifer (Scott) Doane. He was the proud grandfather of Floyd Long, Jessica Gray, Steven Long, Ryan Reed, Alyssa Siordia, Jarred Reed, and Dalton Riggenbach, and the devoted great grandfather of Faith Long, Camryn Long, Levi Gray, Jarred Reed, Waylon Luther, Romani Reed, Marquis Reed, Harlen Riggenbach, Mathias Siordia, and Tucker Reed. He is also survived by his sister, Lisa (Sam) Marsh, along with many beloved nieces and nephews who will forever remember his playful spirit, generous heart, and unconditional love.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joetta Reed; his cherished daughter, Joy Faith Reed; his parents, Rev. James and Eva Reed; his brothers, Charles Reed, Kenneth Reed, John Reed, and Clyde Reed; his sister, Clara Hovis; and his precious great granddaughter, Alexis Gray.
While our hearts are filled with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that James is now at peace in the presence of his heavenly father, reunited with his beloved wife and all those who have gone before him. His legacy of faith, love, integrity, kindness, and selflessness will continue to live on through the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched. His example reminds us that a life well lived is measured not by possessions, but by the love shared, the kindness given, and the memories recreated.
Forever loved, forever missed, and forever remembered.
