Larry F. Kiger, age 78, of New Freeport, passed away unexpectedly at his home, Monday, June 8, 2026.
Born July 12, 1947, in New Freeport, son of the late Fred and Ava (Hodges) Kiger.
Larry had been a resident of Greene County all of his life. He graduated from West Greene High School in 1966. Larry married Cindamae Lowery on May 15, 1995, and they were happily married for 29 years until her passing on October 10, 2025. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam for the 377th Security Police Squadron. Larry was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver most of his life. He worked in Mine Shaft Construction, an equipment operator for Alex Paris Contracting, and highway construction for the USW Local 14693 Prior to his retirement in 2010. He was the Constable for Freeport Twp. for many years. Larry was an avid gun collector and shooter.
He is survived by his son, Eddie (Marsha Layton) Kiger, of Mt. Morris; three stepchildren, Michelle (Ron) Miller, of Simms, TX, Mark Lowery, of Clarksville, and Star (Harry) Rutan, of Rices Landing; 12 grandchildren, Austin Kiger, of New Freeport, Stephani (Joe) Zornek, of Woodlawn, AR, Ben Miller, of AR, Cindy (Robin) Prosser, of TX, Patrick (Briana) Burghy, of Nineveh, Jamie Mooney, of Nineveh, Olivia Lowery, of Clarksville, Ariana Lowery, of Clarksville, Christian Staggers, of Rogersville, Marcus Staggers, of Latrobe, Justin Staggers, of Oakland, and John Dodson, of Fairchance; 15 great grandchildren; and brother Lonnie (Judy) Kiger, of Glen Easton, WV.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Brian Pettis, Jr. and Jason Staggers, Jr.; one great granddaughter, Lorenna Patrice Clamp.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the family’s request.
