Obituary for Helen Lyon

Helen Elaine Lyon, 88, of Wind Ridge (Ryerson), Pa. died at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2011 in the home of her son Paul F. Lyon, Jr. after being in failing health for the past several years.She was born August 24, 1923 in Aleppo Twp. Greene Co. Pa. a daughter of the late John Walter and Sophie Josephine King McKerrihan and had resided in the Pittsburgh and Prosperity areas prior to returning to the Wind Ridge area in 1953.Mrs. Lyon had been a member of the Wind Ridge Christian Church for over 70 years.She was a 1942 graduate of the former Richhill Twp. High School in Wind Ridge and a 1945 graduate of the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh.Mrs. Lyon was a former registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital and Hillsview Sanatorium, and was employed as a cook for the West Greene School District from 1954 to 1959.She was also the former co-owner and operator of the Lyon Service station and campground at Ryerson from 1959 until the late 1970's, and during that same time period was appointed as a mail clerk and carrier in Wind Ridge and served as the postmaster in Aleppo prior to her retirement.On March 8, 1945 she married Paul Franklin Lyon who died in 1972.Surviving are two sons, Paul F.(Frank) Lyon, Jr., husband of Sharon Lyon of Wind Ridge (Ryerson) with whom she shared a home and John W., husband of Jeanne Lyon of Crescent, Pa.; a sister, Mary Jo, wife of Dick Kiger of N. Carolina; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren; her companion of several years, John Watson of Aleppo Twp.Deceased in addition to her parents and husband is a sister, Aldine Knight.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wind Ridge Christian Church, Wind Ridge, Pa. 15380.
