William "Billy" F. Turnow Jr.

William “Billy” F. Turnow, Jr., age 77, of Millersville, MD passed away unexpectedly July 5, 2022, in his home.

Billy was born July 19, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA the only child of the late William F. Sr and Francis (Meyer) Turnow.

Billy was an active member of Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church, Millersville, MD.

Billy spent his formative years in the town of Riverton, NJ graduating in 1962 from Riverton High School. In 1964, along with his parents, he relocated to McMurray, PA. Billy proudly served his country as a member of the US Air National Guard of which he was honorably discharged after six years of service. He went on to graduate from the Allegheny Airlines Mechanic School which led to his long, lustrous career in the airline industry. Billy built some of his most lasting and cherished friendships throughout his 51 years of service. He retired from American Airlines in 2020.

After his retirement, Billy found more time to enjoy his hobbies. He enjoyed wood working, electronics, computers, reading, movies and dining out at his favorite restaurants. In 2019, he built his new home in a close-knit community where he found a new love for socializing and spending time with friends and neighbors. He spoke fondly of the friends he made during the past two years and seemed to feel a true sense of belonging.

One special memory Billy spoke of with excitement was a recent trip to Yellowstone National Park with his friend, Dawn. After years of hard work with little to no time for vacation, this trip meant the world to him and he could not wait to share pictures of his adventure with his family.

Billy always looked forward to returning home to Pennsylvania for the holidays and some home cooked meals with his dad, step-mom and extended family. After his father passed, Billy maintained a close relationship with his step-mom, Nedra and had a special connection with his step-brother, Jeff.

Billy is survived by his step-mother, Nedra Turnow, his step-brothers Jeff (Lisa) Swart and Gary Swart both of Washington, PA; his step-sisters Sandra Lahew, of Rogersville, PA and Marilyn Swart, of Vincent, OH. He is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life mass will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Fields Roman Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave, Millersville, MD 21108. A luncheon will immediately follow at the church. A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held July 28, 2022 at 11 AM at Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy., Rogersville, PA 15359; Telephone 724 499 5181. Burial will follow at Centennial Cemetery, Aleppo, PA where military rights will be conducted by the Greene County Honor Guard and the United States Air National Guard.
