Robert L. Riffle, 86, of Houston, Pa. and formerly of Washington died at 2:40 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2015 in St. Clair Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
He was born February 27, 1929 in Cameron, W.Va. a son of the late Perry Lindsay and Margaret Rebecca Ullom Riffle.
Mr. Riffle had resided in the Washington area (South Strabane Twp.) for 58 years prior to moving to Houston in 2009.
He was a former member of the Grace Brethren Church where he had served as a deacon and trustee and was a member of the Abundant Life Baptist Church at the time of his death.
Mr. Riffle was a 1947 graduate of the former Waynesburg High School.
He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a Private First Class with the U.S. Army.
Mr. Riffle was a founding and active member of the Brethren Church camp, Camp Albryoca at Meyersdale, Pa., a member of the American Legion Post 175 in Washington, and a member of the former Quarter Century Club of Columbia Gas Corporation.
He was employed as a meter and regulator technician by the former Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation at the Brownsville Station for 37 years prior to retiring in 1986.
On August 6, 1951 he married Lois Elaine Wendell who died April 27, 2013.
Surviving are two sons, Perry, husband of Jean Riffle and Stephen, husband of Lynn Riffle, both of Washington; two daughters, Barbara, wife of Warren Harkness of Triadelphia, W.Va. and Wendy, wife of William Kudaroski of Washington; 12 grandchildren, Scott, Chris and Ryan Harkness, Julie Hastings, Jessie Simpson, Lori, Daniel, Bethany Bailey, Stephen and Eric Riffle, Lindsey and Leah Kudaroski; 13 great grandchildren; three brothers, Hal, husband of Jean Riffle of Bonita Springs, Fl., Donald, husband of Bonnie Riffle of Aleppo and David, husband of Suzanne Riffle of Punxatawny, Pa.; several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa. where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015 with Pastor Jeff Deidrich officiating. Interment will follow in Centennial Cemetery, Aleppo Twp. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Camp Albryoca, 2801 Greenville Rd., Meyersdale, Pa. 15552.
