Rev. Thomas H. Hughes,(retired), 91, formerly of Taylorstown and Claysville, Pa. died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015 in the Transitions Health Care, Washington, Pa.
He was born September 12, 1923 in Washington, Pa. a son of the late Henry and Harriett Hughes and had resided in the Taylorstown (Buffalo Twp.) area for several years prior to moving to Wyoming where he resided for 7 and one-half years, prior to returning to Washington County.
Rev. Hughes was a graduate of the former Claysville High School and Bethany College.
He was a former pastor at Mt. Herman Baptist Church and was a member and former pastor of the Enon Baptist Church from where he retired in 1998, with over 38 years in the Baptist Ministry.
Rev. Hughes was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Army and was a member of the Taylorstown American Legion Post 907.
On January 16, 1948 he married Minnie June Raber who died August 7, 1999.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas N., husband of Susan Hughes of Douglassville, Charles Hughes of Kansas City, MO., and Robert B., husband of Denise Hughes of West Grove; a daughter, Sharon, wife of Joe Trogden of Kansas City, MO.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to his parents and wife are a brother, Dudley Hughes; four sisters, Dorothy Troutman, Eilene Leppert, Marge Rooney and Mildred Hughes.
At the request of the family there will be no public visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service to be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in the Claysville Cemetery, with Rev. Meade Lacock officiating..
