Ray Milliken Rutan

Ray Milliken Rutan, age 75, of Waynesburg, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

Born May 27, 1949, in Waynesburg, son of the late Charles Stewart and Aldean (Hopkins) Rutan Sanders.

Ray had been a Greene County resident his whole life. He graduated from West Greene High School in 1969. Ray enlisted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married his companion, Patricia “June” Tustin, of 43 years on March 23, 2022, and they were happily married until her passing on March 13, 2023. Ray was self-employed as a contractor for 43 years until he retired in 2020. He was a lifetime member of the Waynesburg American Legion 330 and Waynesburg VFW Post 4793. Ray was also a member of the Waynesburg Sportsman’s Club, Carmichaels Senior Center, ISAAC Walton Foundation, and the Harvey’s Aleppo Grange. He loved fishing, hunting, trapping, and ginseng digging. Recently, Ray learned to dance and loved it. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his companion, Karen Dixon, of Carmichaels; one daughter, Kristina (Charles) Royer, of Waynesburg; two grandchildren, Alexandra (Loran) Royer-Yoders, of Waynesburg and Zachary Royer, of Washington; one great grandchild on the way; six siblings, Harry L. Rutan, of Rices Landing, Jack E. Rutan, of Mt. Morris, Dorothy M. Orndoff, Judy O. “Tuttle” Orndoff, Dale L. (Ed) Gaskill, all three of Waynesburg, and Ethel P “Polly” Caldwell, of NC.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Martha Rawson, Coral Hazel Rutan, Dennis “Denny” Rutan, Charles Rutan, James P. “Jimmy” Rutan, and Penny A. “Arthur” Wright.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC. 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy. PO Box 434 Rogersville, PA 15359. Telephone: 724-499-5181. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Park where full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Greene County Honor Guard.
