Nellie Irene Morris, 87, of Jackson Twp. (Delphene) Pa., died at 4:30 a.m., Tuesday November 18, 2014 in her home after being seriously ill for the past two months. She was born February 19, 1927 in Morris Twp., Greene Co., Pa., a daughter of the late Harry Melvin and Nellie Hazel Miller Rutan and has been a resident of Jackson Twp. (Delphene) since 1970. Mrs. Morris was a member and former Sunday school teacher of the Centennial Church of God and also attended the Maranantha Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Dr. William Birch and Harry Cummings and was the caretaker of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stoy Morris and was last employed for nine years as a LPN for the former Curry Memorial Home, Franklin Twp., Pa., prior to retiring in 1972. Mrs. Morris enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and gardening. On May 17, 1970 she married Jack Morris who survives. Surviving in addition to her husband are a brother Richard A. Rutan of Waynesburg, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her parents are four sisters, Betty Jean Rutan who died in infancy, Margaret Toland, Frances Anderson, and Isabella Pettit; and eight brothers, James, Ellsworth, Harry Jr., Wilbert, John, Hershel, Carl, and Thomas D. Rutan who was killed in action during WWI. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc., Rogersville, Pa., where funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2014 with Rev. Vernon K. Berdine officiating. Interment will be held at Macedonia Cemetery, Jackson Twp., Greene Co., Pa. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or your local Hospice chapter
