Mary Jane Shook

Mary Jane Shook, age 83, of West Finley, passed away, Friday, October 18, 2024, at her daughter’s home with her family by her side.

Born April 26, 1941, in Waynesburg, daughter of the late Daniel and Pearl (Beatty) Welling.

Mary had resided in Washington County most of her life. She was a member of Windy Gap Presbyterian Church in West Finley. Mary married George E. Shook, Sr. on April 27, 1962, and they were happily married for 46 years until his passing on March 27, 2009. She worked on the Election Board of West Finley, Washington County Precinct 1 for over 50 years. Mary was an active member of the West Finley Volunteer Fire Company and a former member of the ladies auxiliary. She was an avid player of Bunco, Dart Ball, and Bingo. Mary enjoyed baking, crocheting, and loved to cook. She was a caregiver for her sister during her time of need. Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren and was a mom to many. She will be missed by everyone that knew and loved her.

She is survived by four children, William L. Shook, of Toledo, OH, Bernice A. (James) Devenney, of Washington, George E. (Mary L.) Shook, Jr., of New Cumberland, WV, and Frank A. (Leeann) Shook, of Waynesburg; one stepchild, Margaret A. Hutchison, of Proctor, WV; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Howard E. Welling, of Springfield, IL.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by, four siblings, Bonnie E. Nesselroad, Patsy M. Rogers, Merle Huff, and Carroll L. Welling; grandson, Bumblebee Courtwright; stepson, Walter E. Shook.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Windy Gap Presbyterian Church, 132 Burnsville Ridge Rd. West Finley, PA 15377. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 11:30 AM in the church with Pastor Joe Rearick, officiating. Burial will follow at West Finley Cemetery.
