Biography Jo-Lena Gaines, 70, of New Freeport, (Jackson Twp.), Pa. died unexpectedly at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014 in Ruby Memorial (WVU Hospitals, Inc.), Morgantown, W.Va.. She was born June 6, 1943 in Steubenville, Ohio a daughter of the late William Edward Hullihen, Jr. and Lena Marcella DeVaux Hullihen. Mrs. Gaines had resided in Waynesburg for six years prior to moving to Jackson Twp. in 1979. She was a 1962 graduate of Carrollton (Ohio) High School and graduated from the Gerber Beauty Academy in Canton, Ohio in 1964. Mrs. Gaines was formerly employed as a beautician at Eleanor's Beauty Shop in Carrollton for three years, a former van driver for Intermediate One in Waynesburg, assisted her late husband with the former Gaines Meat Market for seven years and was last employed as a custodian with the West Greene School District for 17 years prior to retiring in 2003. She enjoyed her time with family and grandchildren. On December 3, 1966 she married Raymond Carroll Gaines who died April 14, 2013. Surviving are a daughter, Jodi Gilbert, companion of Robert Sovil of Pittsburgh; three sons, Raymond C. Gaines, Jr., Brady Gaines, and Randy, husband of Sarah Gaines all of New Freeport; eight grandchildren, Lacie, Casey, Carlie, Jesse, Justin and Ryan Gaines, James, Jr. and Brittany Gilbert; a brother, William E. Hullihen, III; three sisters, Mary Jane, wife of Kenneth Huff of Waynesburg, Harriet, wife of Robert Briggs of Brewster, Ohio and Linda Sue, wife of Charles Theis of Malvern, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Cunningham of Rices Landing, Pa; a nephew, Matthew Gaines of Burgettstown, Pa., and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa. where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 with Rev. Vernon K. Berdine officiating. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery.
