John Robert Mitchell

John Robert Mitchell 89, of New Freeport, PA passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Waynesburg Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born March 5, 1932, in Nettle Hill, Greene County PA son of the late Milton and Pearl (Morris) Mitchell.

John worked for Penn Dot in Waynesburg for 27 years until retiring in 1994.

He was a Greene County resident his whole life. John attended Aleppo Brethren Church, he enjoyed singing gospel and country songs with his friend singer/songwriter/guitarist Sandy Lusco Huffman. John loved taking his grandchildren hunting and fishing.

John married Rosalie “Sally” (Brown) Mitchell on November 7, 1955 and were happily married for 65 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are three sons, David M. Mitchell, Noah Allen Mitchell, Uriah Robert Mitchell, two daughters, Holly Marie (Mitchell) Brown, Stormie Lee Mitchell and unborn son, Waylon James Lample; four granddaughters, Jasmine Alyssa Mitchell, Melanie Norris and her two boys and two girls, Erika Hand, and Amanda Daniel Mitchell; three grandsons, Brandon David Mitchell, Nevin Lee Mitchell, and Harry Johnson along with several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his parents is a daughter, Sally Ann (Mitchell) Hand and a son John Robert “Pappy Shag” Mitchell, Jr., one sister, Anna Mae Mitchell, and three brothers, Enlow Mitchell, George Mitchell, and Woodrow Mitchell.

All services are private and have been entrusted to Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC., 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy., Rogersville, PA 15359. Telephone: 724-499-5181. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at the Aleppo Brethren Church on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 4:30-7:00pm with Pastor Lanny Hewitt officiating.
