James R. (Bun) Wendell, 92, of Waynesburg (Eastview), Pa. and formerly of Wind Ridge, Pa. died unexpectedly at 12:03 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 in the Rolling Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Waynesburg.
He was born in Richhill Twp. (Ryerson Station), Greene County, Pa. a son of the late James Franklin and Sarah Elizabeth King Wendell and had been a resident of Wind Ridge for 52 years prior to moving to Eastview in 2003.
Mr. Wendell was a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church, at Holbrook and believed in and lived a Christian life.
He enjoyed his time with his family and grandchildren, cruises, bus tours as long as his health permitted and also enjoyed just sitting on his porch and community picnics.
Mr. Wendell was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in the 66th Troop Carrier Squadron, and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 5 bronze stars, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star, and the Air Medal with 1 bronze cluster, and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of the Waynesburg Masonic Lodge 153 FAM, the Shriners, and was a member of the former Wind Ridge V. F. W.
Mr. Wendell was employed by Texas Eastern Gas Company at the Holbrook station for 34 years prior to retiring in 1985 as a crew foreman.
On January 1, 1946 he married Violet Alice (Jake) Weekly who died May 14, 2013.
Surviving are two sons, James, husband of Darlene Wendell of Holbrook and Rich, husband of Gwen Wendell of Waynesburg (Eastview); four grandchildren, Jennifer Preteroti, Timothy, Chad and Kendra Wendell; two great grandchildren, Christopher and Cameron Wendell.
Deceased in addition to his parents and his wife are a brother, King Wendell; two sisters, Mildred Wallace and Ruth Murphy.
At the request of the deceased all services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
