Herman C. Varndell, Jr.

Herman C. Varndell, Jr., age 83, of Holbrook, (Jackson Township) passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 9, 2016.

Born January 25, 1933, in Vestaburg, PA he is the son of the late Herman Christopher and Nora Mae (Rankin) Varndell, Sr.

Herman was a brakeman for the CSX Railroad in Benwood, WV for over 40 years and a member of the United Transportation Union for 50 years. He had been a member of the Cameron, WV Moose Lodge and was a member of the Deerwood Manor Hunt Club in Emporium, PA and the Owls Club in Fredericktown, PA. Herman was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. Fishing trips to New York with friends from the hunting club were always enjoyed as well as boating and fishing trips to Lake Erie. Herman welcomed his friends to his home in the fall during deer season. He liked to travel and took road trips on his Harley Davidson motorcycle to Ohio Pyle and the Flight 93 Memorial with friends. He attended the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church in Holbrook.

Husband of Ruth E. (Benson) Varndell; Father of Pamela (Roland) Brown, of Waynesburg, PA, Leisa (Chip) Conklin, of Vestaburg, PA and Susan (James) Taylor, of Pine Bank, PA; Grandfather of Terri Brown, Coltin Conklin, Amy Tuttle and Tara Taylor; five great-grandchildren; Brother of Mildred Jones, of Willoughby, OH; Uncle of several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers Ralph Eugene Varndell and John Wallace Varndell.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a Graveside Service on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Bethany Cemetery, Jackson Township, with Rev. Bruce Judy, officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC. 3275 West Roy Furman Hwy. Rogersville, PA 15359. (724) 499-5181.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vestaburg Community Park Revitalization Project, East Bethlehem Twp. Board of Commissioners, PO Box 687, Fredericktown, PA 15333 or to the Bethany Cemetery, 270 Washington Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
