Harry Patton

Harry B. Patton, 89, of Waynesburg, Pa. died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2014 in his home. He was born May 30, 1925 in Kittanning, Pa. a son of the late Oscar Lee (O.L.) and Mabel Lucille Skinner Patton and had resided in the Brownsville area prior to moving to Waynesburg in 1960. Mr. Patton formerly attended the Washington Street United Methodist Church. He was awarded his graduation diploma from Albert-Gallatin High School. Mr. Patton enjoyed gardening and working with his son Thomas as long as his health permitted. He was a veteran of World War II where served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army with Battery C, 757th Field Artillery Battalion, and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Patton was a life member of the Waynesburg V.F.W. Post 4793, the Waynesburg Moose Lodge 461, also a member and past chief of the Waynesburg V.F.D. and a member of the Utilities Workers of America Local 102. He was employed by the former West Penn Power Company (Allegheny Power) in Jefferson, Pa. for 25 years prior to retiring as a lead lineman in 1975, and following retirement founded what is now known as Patton Electric. On May 26, 1948 he married Joan Louise Owens who died December 5, 2004. Surviving are nine children, Clara Buchannon, wife of Gene King of Edington, N. Carolina, Harry, husband of Carol Patton of Waynesburg, Dale Patton, companion of Chester Kelly of Chicago, ILL., Gerald, husband of Marla Patton of Waynesburg, Patricia, wife of Troy Miller of Waynesburg, Jeff, husband of Jeanie Patton of Waynesburg, Joyce, wife of Kevin Doody of Mt. Lebanon, Div. Com. Sgt. Maj. Kenneth, husband of Sonya Patton of Fayetteville, N. Carolina and Thomas A. Patton of Spraggs;a sister,Annetta, wife of Jacob Conn of Baltimore, MD; 25 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents and his wife are, a daughter, Janet Volmer Todd; a daughter-in-law, Joy Phillips Patton; three brothers, Lee, Darryl (Bud) and Richard Patton. At the request of the family all arrangements will be private and held at the convenience of the family. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity or church of your choice.
