Glenn Chambers

Glenn E. Chambers, 82, of West Finley (Richhill Twp. Greene Co.) Pa. died at 5:20 a.m. Monday, November 28, 2011 in the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, Pa. after a lengthy battle with a diabetes related illness.He was born September 6, 1929 in Richhill Twp. a son of the late August Ward and Bessie Ann Richey Chambers and had resided in Richhill Twp. all his life.Mr. Chambers enjoyed hunting and being out-of-doors as long as his health permitted.He was last employed as a heavy equipment operator with the former Columbia Gas Corp. at the Majorsville station for over 25 years prior to his retirement.Mr. Chambers was a 1946 graduate of the former Richhill Twp. High School in Wind Ridge.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served during the Korean War and was a member of the Cameron (W.Va.) American Legion Post 18.On October 3, 1953 he married Shirley Jean Hixenbaugh who died November 6, 2009.Surviving are four sons, Thomas, husband of Shelly Chambers of Hubert, N. Carolina, Kevin Lee Chambers of Graysville, Harold, husband of Bobbi Jo Chambers of Wind Ridge and Robert Chambers of Washington; two daughters, Debra Whitlatch of Graysville and Kimberly, wife of Larry Taylor of Greensboro; a sister, Betty Hewitt of Graysville; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.Deceased in addition to his parents and wife are a son, Charles Richard Chambers, who died as a toddler; a brother, Richard Lloyd Chambers; a grandson who died in infancy.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Assoc.
