Geraldine “Gerry” Mae Polen, age 85, of Spraggs, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Washington Hospital.
Born May 14, 1936, in Sugar Grove, daughter of the late Glenn Morton and Mabel Louise (Wendt) Yoho.
Gerry was a resident of Spraggs since 1994. She graduated from Cameron High School in 1954 then went on to graduate from OVGH School of Nursing in 1957. Gerry was a member of South Wheeling Baptist Church. She married Richard Franklin Polen on May 13, 1956, and they were happily married for 56 years until his passing on October 22, 2013. Gerry was a former employee working as an RN for Beverly Health Care, Waynesburg, Curry Home, Waynesburg, and the Head of Anderson Nursing Home, Cameron then retired from Greene County Memorial Hospital in 1987. She was a former member of the Cameron Women’s Club. Gerry enjoyed crafts, crocheting, being a seamstress, square dancing, and traveling to Florida to spend her winters.
She is survived by three children, Kim (Jim) Anderson, of Mount Clare, WV. (Formerly of Aleppo), Heidi (David) Nelson, of Spraggs, and Mark (Janeen) Polen, of Wooster, OH; eight grandchildren, Ryan Polen, Jeremy Polen, Jennifer Polen, Cody Polen, Amber (Bryan) Hunt, Evan (Kasey) Anderson, Ali (Bobby) McLaughlin, and Derrick (Kinsey) Nelson; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Ada Jean Bingamon, of Floral City, FL. She is also survived by her precious fur babies, Joey and Mocha.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Yoho.
