Fern I. Whipkey, 71, of Waynesburg and formerly of Bristoria, Greene Co., Pa. died at 8:45 p.m. Monday, October 2, 2006 in the WVU (Ruby) Hospitals Inc., Morgantown, W.Va. even though being in failing health, her death was unexpected.She was born June 16, 1935 in Richhill Twp., Greene Co., a daughter of Fred Furman and Mary Margaret Poland Whipkey and had resided in Richhill Twp. prior to moving to Waynesburg in 1979. She was a former member of Harmony Presbyterian Church in Wind Ridge where she had served as a former church secretary and kindergarten teacher.Ms. Whipkey was the class valedictorian of Richhill Twp. H.S. in 1953 and was a former Richhill Twp. H.S. cheerleader, band member, and a former member of the Home Ec. Club. She was the 1952 Jr. May Queen Attendent and the 1953 May Queen.She was an employee of the former Pancake House in Waynesburg and the former RCA Company in Canonsburg and was last employed as a cook by the former Greene County Memorial Hospital in Waynesburg prior to retiring in 1983.Ms. Whipkey was a member of the Whitely Twp. Farm Women's Association and a former Den Leader of Cub Scout Pack #287. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for 18 years as well as volunteered with the Leukemia and Easter Seal societies and the American Heart Association, all in Waynesburg. She has been a member of the Aleppo Grange #2054 since 1962 and a member of the Pomona Grange.Surviving are her son, John E. Yoders, Jr. companion of Betty Raymont of Waynesburg; one sister, Linda wife of John Kerns of Warren, Ohio; two grandchildren, Nichole and Jessie Yoders.Deceased in addition to her parents is her brother, Larry R. Whipkey, Sr. who died on December 17, 2000.The family suggest memorial contributions be made to your charity of choice.
