Esther E. (Breese) Varner Thomas, age 91, of Claysville, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023, in her home with her family by her side.

Born November 29, 1932, in Washington, daughter of the late Howard and Alice (Mounts) Breese.

Esther was a Washington County resident her whole life. She graduated from Claysville High School in 1950, then went on to get her nursing degree from Washington Hospital School of Nursing. Esther also had a certificate in accounting from Penn Commercial. She was a member of Rolling Hills Chapel Church in Claysville. Esther married her first husband, Donzil K. Varner, on December 7, 1950, and they were married for 18 years until his passing on June 5, 1968, then on March 24, 1972, she married Gerald Thomas, and they were happily married for 47 years until his passing on January 1, 2020. She owned and operated Hillsview Personal Care Home for 35 years until her retirement in 2018. Esther enjoyed reading, word find puzzle books, and was a prayer warrior. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a faithful servant to the lord and others her whole life. Her family loved her ham.

She is survived by her daughter, Dianna Varner, of Claysville; seven grandchildren, Steven “Joey” (Nicole) Perez, of Los Lunas, NM, William (Kate) Fisher, of Bentleyville, Kenneth (Amy) Fisher, of Freeport, FL, Benjamin (Anne) Fisher, of Locust Grove, GA, Danielle (John) Gallo, of Washington, Duran (Shelly) Perez, of Peblo West, CO, and Elizabeth (Jimmy Milligan) Varner, of Claysville; eighteen great grandchildren; three siblings, Laura (Jerry) Main, of Claysville, Dorothy (Gary Morehead) Clark, of Lake Milton, OH, and Shirley (Frank) Lindley, of Apache Junction, AZ; many dearly loved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by her two daughters, Daunice Kaye Varner, who passed in infancy and Delinda Fisher; two grandchildren, Victoria Whitney and Joshua Fisher; four Siblings, Estella Martin, Robert “Bob” Breese, Duane Breese, and Patricia “Tish” Westwood.

Friends and family will be received on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 4-8 PM at Rolling Hills Chapel Church, 214 Timber Lake Rd. Claysville, PA 15323. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the church with Pastor Jill Briggs, officiating. Burial will follow at Claysville Cemetery.
