Dortha V. Hewitt, 84, of Wind Ridge, Pa. died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, April 20, 2003 in the Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, Pa. after being in failing health for the past year.She was born February 23, 1919 in Richhill Township (Long Run), Greene County, Pa. a daughter of Isaac Noel and Gertrude Hull Whipkey.Mrs. Hewitt has been a resident of the Richhill Township and Wind Ridge areas all her life.She was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church and a member of the Ladies Aid of the church.Mrs. Hewitt was employed as cook at the former Richhill Township High School and served two terms as Richhill Township Auditor and served as the Richhill Township Tax Collector for 32 years prior to retiring in 1982.She was a charter member of the Richhill Township V.F.D. Auxiliary and a 28 year member of the Aleppo Grange 2054 where she had formerly served as Treasurer. She was also a member of the former Wind Ridge Missionary Society, the former Ross Hill Garden Club and during World War II she served with the Wind Ridge Women's Ambulance Corps.Mrs. Hewitt was inducted into the Pa. Voters Hall of Fame after 50 consecutive years of voting.On June 12, 1935 she married William Edward Hewitt who died May 3, 1994.Surviving are one son, William N. Hewitt of Wind Ridge; one uncle, John Hull of Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.Deceased are two brothers, John and Lawrence Whipkey.Mrs. Hewitt was the last of her immediate family.The Aleppo Grane 2054 will conduct a memorial service in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
