DOROTHY CLEO CONKLIN GASHEL BELOVED MOTHER AND NANA Dorothy Cleo Conklin Gashel, 91, of Claysville, Pa. died at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in her home after being seriously ill for the past three months. She was born February 23, 1923 in Richhill Twp., Greene County, Pa. a daughter of the late Charles Clinton and Alta Rae Jones Conklin and had been a resident of Claysville since 1946. Mrs. Gashel was a 68 year member of the First Baptist Church in Claysville and a member of the Rainbow Sunday school class. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafts and participating in local craft shows, and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, watching the games with her special sister-in-law, Grace Conklin. Mrs. Gashel was an active community volunteer at the Washington Hospital for 35 years and was a member of the Claysville V.F.D. Auxiliary, Claysville American Legion Auxiliary, Martha Washington Quilters Guild and the Covered Bridge Artisans. On February 23, 1946 she married Kenneth Lee Gashel (president and co-owner of the former Lee Gashel and Sons Meat Packing Company) who died April 8, 1999. Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl, wife of Robert Cumer and a daughter-in-law, Ruth Stollar Gashel, both of Claysville; five grandchildren, David, husband of Tabatha Cumer, Amy Sibert, Amanda, wife of Michael Dillon, Jill Gashel, companion of Tony Digiorgio and Jared Gashel, companion of Katie Helmuth; nine great grandchildren, Jordan and Taylor Sibert, Nathan and Megan Cumer, Tyler, Alexandra and Barrett Dillon, Kayla and Abigail Burt; several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are a daughter, Linda Gashel, who died in 1963; a son, Barry Gashel, who died in 2007; three brothers, Howard, Paul and Arthur Conklin; three sisters, Irene Miller, Mae Roberts and Opal Rush. Mrs. Gashel was the last of her immediate family. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church in Claysville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 with Rev, James R. Sevon, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Claysville Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the First Baptist Church of Claysville, 317 Main St., PO Box 26, Claysville, Pa. 15323 or Hospice Care of The Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Ave., Washington, Pa. 15301.
