Donald M. Yoders, 80, of Aleppo Twp., Greene County, Pa. died at 1:37 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2015 in home after being in failing health for the past several months.
He was born November 27, 1934 in Garards Fort, Pa. a son of the late Clyde and Thelma Jean Conard Yoders and had resided in the Garards Fort area most of his life. Following the death of his mother, he was raised by his maternal grandmother, Martha Helmick Conard, and following her death, his thirteen aunts and uncles assumed the parenting roles. He had resided in Aleppo Twp. since 1957.
Mr. Yoders was raised in the Baptist faith and after moving to Aleppo Twp. attended the area churches.
He attended Mapletown High School where he participated in wrestling and football.
Mr. Yoders was a veteran of the Korean War where he served with the U.S. Navy, as a Boilerman 3rd Class, and during his military service circled the globe two times. He was awarded the Good Conduct, Korean Service, United Nations Service and National Defense Service Medals.
He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed hunting and fishing as long as his health permitted.
Mr. Yoders was employed in the W.Va. and Pa. coal mines for over 40 years, beginning as a laborer and superintendent with the Rosby Rock Mine (W.Va.), superintendent with Ireland and Shumaker Mines, prior to being asked to serve as the 1st superintendent at Bailey Mine when it opened in 1984, where he remained until retiring in 1995.
On May 21, 1955 he married Carolyn Joanne Patterson who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Donald, husband of Maryjo Yoders of Glen Easton, W.Va., Ronald, husband of Lori Yoders of Murfreesboro, TN.; two daughters, Robin Gillispie of Aleppo Twp. and Debra, wife of Jay Jones of Rogersville; 15 grandchildren, Craig, husband of Caren Gillispie, Jerrod, husband of Kelli Gillispie, Cara, wife of Matthew Cunningham, Gary Gillispie II, Chelsey, wife of Garett Johnston, Curtis Jones, Donald J., husband of Sarah Yoders, Travis Yoders, companion of Nicole Cumpston, Toby Hughes, Hunter Yoders, Ashley Yoders, fianc of Robert Dorsey, Amanda, wife of Shawn Jensen, Austin, Cole and Tyler Yoders; 13 great grandchildren; two uncles, James Conard of Garards Fort and Matthew Conard of Nemacolin; two sisters-in-law, Linda McCracken of Waynesburg and Emma Lee Patterson of Warren, Ohio; several cousins.
Deceased is his son-in-law, Gary Gillispie.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa. where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2015, with Pastor Scott Blair officiating. Interment will follow in Centennial Cemetery, Aleppo Twp. Graveside flag presentation will be accorded by members of the U.S. Navy.
