Donald "Don" Penn Hickman

Donald “Don” Penn Hickman, age 95, of Claysville, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Donnell House in Washington.

Born June 26, 1930, in Dunn Station, son of the late Stephen and Margaret (Penn) Hickman.

Don had been a resident of Claysville since 1952, moving there from Dunn Station. He was a member of the Claysville United Presbyterian Church and was on the board of trustees. Don married Patty Lou Auld on October 13, 1950, and they were happily married for 59 years until her passing on January 1, 2010. He was employed with Sprowls Country Hardware as their serviceman. Don worked on appliances for 27 years until his retirement in 1990. He was also a former employee of the Hazel Atlas Glass Plant in Washington for 15 years as a laborer and was a volunteer for the Claysville Volunteer Fire Department.

Don is survived by his daughter in law, Debra Hickman, of Washington; son, Jay (Bernadette) Hickman, of Claysville; seven grandchildren, Dena (James) Weimer, of Smithfield, Dorinda (Timothy) Bowlen, of Fairchance, Darci Griffith, of Shallotte, NC, Lauren (Doug) Flanagan, of Arlington, VA, Miranda Hickman, of TN, Holly (Ryan) Wise, of OH, and Greg (Gretta Westley) Hickman, of Washington; five step grandchildren, Jesse (Amy) Schnelzer, of Leesburg, VA, Michele Catlett, of Beaufort, SC, Aaron Schnelzer, of Beaufort, SC, Daniel and Michael Schnelzer, both of Waynesburg; eleven great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, one in infancy and C. Dean Hickman; daughter Donna Lou Black; five siblings, Stephen Lee, Reed E., E. Vernon, and Gerald W. Hickman and Mary Jo Archer; grandson in law, Sid Griffith; and his son in law, Bruce Black.

Friends and family will be received on Monday, January 19, 2026, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Claysville United Presbyterian Church, 134 Wayne St. Claysville, PA 15323. A second visitation will be held in the church on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jerome Creach, officiating. At the request of the family, burial will be private.
