Donald Conkey

Donald Laverne Conkey, 68, of New Philadelphia, Ohio and formerly of Greene County, Pa. died Friday, August 1, 2003 in the Union Hospital, Dover, Ohio after a 6-month battle with cancer.He was born April 18, 1935 in Waynesburg, Pa. a son of John Harl "Kissy" and Verta Pearle Breese Conkey.Mr. Conkey has resided in Ohio since 1964.He was employed as a lineman and supervisor with GTE Telephone for 28 years prior to his retirement in 1992.Mr. Conkey served with the Waynesburg U.S. Army Reserves as a specialist fourth class from 1957 until 1963.He was a 1952 graduate of Center Township High School.Mr. Conkey was a member of the New Philadelphia Moose Lodge and V.F.W. and a former member of the Tusco Rifle Club.Surviving are Linda Reiger, his companion for over 20 years; one son, Andrew Conkey of Port Washington, Ohio; one daughter, Jane Beahm of Midvale, Ohio; five sisters, Clara Iams and Sue Clutter both of Sycamore, Pa. R.D.#1, Ferne Knight of Carmichaels, Pa., Betty Scherich of New Philadelphia and Naomi Lapping of Waynesburg; three grandchildren, Kyle, Kourtney and Keri Beahm.Deceased in addition to his parents is a sister, Kathryn Jane Conkey.
