Constance “Connie” (Tharp) Phillips, age 80, of Waynesburg, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, in her home with her family by her side.
Born January 8, 1943, in Waynesburg, the daughter of the late Kenneth Tharp and Lucille (Conaway) Tharp, who survives.
Connie was a Greene County resident her whole life. She graduated from West Greene High School in 1961. Connie was a member of Rolling Meadows Church of God, of Waynesburg, where she received an award for the Church of God’s state children’s Pastor. She was the Sunday School teacher for many years, Children’s Ministries Director for over 25 years in addition to the Children’s Ministries Outreach to Valley Farm Drive, as well as various outreach ministries. Connie married Samuel L. Phillips on July 16, 1961, and they were happily married for 47 years until his passing in February 2009. She drove school bus for 13 years for John O. Dulaney and was a trusted and faithful employee for the Toothman family doing various jobs since 2001; they considered her family. For a short time, she was the owner of Connie’s Concepts. Connie enjoyed baking, making crafts, family get togethers, and playing scrabble.
She is survived by her three daughters, Beth (Bruce) Phillips Kline, of Elkton, MD, Traci J. (Jim) Ketchem, of Jefferson, and Becky L. Phillips, of Waynesburg; one daughter-in-law Vickie Phillips, of Uniontown; six grandchildren, Kamber Phillips, of Markleysburg, Russell (Brittany) Phillips, of Smithfield, Alex (Jessica) Kline, of Frederick, MD, Ethan (Caitlin) Kline, of Elkton, MD, Cody (Jaclyn) Ketchem, of Holbrook, and Alecia (Danny) Herrington, of Waynesburg; nine great grandchildren; five siblings, Joan (Gary) Brown, of Waynesburg, Stephen (Kim) Tharp, of Ashtabula, OH, Loretta Wyatt, of Valley City, OH, Wanda Tharp, of Waynesburg, and Glenda Whitacre, of Waynesburg.
In addition to her father and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Kendall Scott “Fireball” Phillips.
Friends will be received on Monday, January 16 from 10:30 – 2 PM at Rolling Meadows Church of God, 595 Rolling Meadows Rd., Waynesburg, PA 15370. A funeral service will begin at 2 PM in the church with Pastor Richard Berkey, officiating. A dinner will be held at the Rolling Meadows Church of God following the funeral. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rolling Meadows Church of God, 595 Rolling Meadows Rd., Waynesburg, PA 15370.
