Chester J. Borkowski, 84, of Claysville, Pa. died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday. October 25, 2007 in Washington County Health Center, Washington, Pa. after being in failing health for the past several years and seriously ill for the past several days. He was born September 18, 1923 in Washington, Pa a son of Stanley and Anna Bulat Borkowski and had resided in Washington for several years prior to moving to West Finley in 1984.Mr. Borkowski was a former member of the Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church in Washington.He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army having served as a Corporal with the Medical Detachment 109th Inf. Reg. 28th Inf. Div. in the European Theater of Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. He received the Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with three bronze stars.Mr. Borkowski was an employee of the former Duncan and Miller Glass Company for 13 years and was last employed by the former Brockway Glass Company in Washington from 1953 until the plant closed in 1984. He was a former member of the Polish American Citizen Beneficial Society Club, the West Finley Cemetery Association and the West Finely Friendship Club.Mr. Borkowski enjoyed playing softball and bowling in his early years and also playing city, church and club league dartball for several years.On November 25, 1946, he married Helen Deloris Stollar who died March 10, 2002.Surviving are a son, Edward M., husband of Linda Borkowski of Claysville; a grandson, Cody; two sisters, Genevieve Uniejewski and Helen Peters and a brother, Edward J. husband of Alice Borkowski, all of Washington; several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to his wife are, two infant daughters, Linda Kay and Shelia Faye Borkowski; one sister, Mary Jane McCoy and one brother, Walter "Fuzzy" Borkowski.
