Charles W. (Bill) Chapman

Charles W. (Bill) Chapman, 79, of Jefferson, Pa. and formerly of Claysville, died unexpectedly at 9:35 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015 in the Washington Hospital, Washington, Pa.
He was born February 6, 1936 in Claysville, Pa. a son of the late William Chapman and Rosetta Frances Kern Chapman Edy.
Mr. Chapman had resided in Claysville, Wind Ridge and Spraggs prior to moving to Jefferson in 1997.
He was a 1955 graduate of the former
Claysville High School, and graduated 1st in his class from the Greensburg Police Academy in 1972.
Mr. Chapman was a member of the Carmichaels Sportsmans Club, and enjoyed hunting, collecting Indian artifacts, working with leather and woodworking as long as his health permitted.
He was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a Private First Class with Battery C, 2nd Howitzer Battalion (8), 18th Artillery at Fort Lewis Washington.
Mr. Chapman was a former security guard at the National Guard Armory in Washington, a security guard for U.S. Steel at Baily Mine, a former patrolman with the borough of Waynesburg and was last employed as a security guard at the former Greene County Memorial Hospital prior to retiring in 2001.
On August 26, 1961 he married Elaine Frances Fahey who died October 17, 1996.
Surviving are a son, David, husband of Theresa Chapman of New York; his companion of the past 18 years, Frances Barnhart of Carmichaels.
Deceased in addition to his parents and wife are a son, Michael Alvin Chapman and a sister, Mildred Frances Midcap.
At the request of the deceased there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Richhill Twp., Greene County, Pa. Memorial contributions should be made to your local American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa.
