Carolyn G. (Tharp) Kiger Davenport

Carolyn G. (Tharp) Kiger Davenport, age 75, of Waynesburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly on June 3, 2017.

Born December 5, 1941 in Center Twp., PA, she is the daughter of the late John B. and Gail G. (Wendell) Tharp.

In 1959, Carolyn graduated from West Greene High School and became employed for Berkowitz Clothing Factory. She was a former employee of the naval exchange in Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. Carolyn was a former employee of Y.D.C (Youth Development Center) in Waynesburg, PA, and then retired from the woman’s correctional facility in Waynesburg, PA. In 1988, she wed Charles Robert Davenport. She lived in Iceland, Alaska, Japan, and numerous other places. Carolyn came back to Greene County in 2010 and became active in her community. She was a member of the Pursley Baptist Church. In her past time she enjoyed daily bible study, crochet and doing jigsaw puzzles as well as spending time with family.

She is survived by three children, Cynthia R. (Tim) Kincer of Portsmouth, VA, Laura M. (Dave) Moore of Waynesburg, PA, and James A. (Joy) Kiger of Denver, NC; three step children, Chauntay (James) Davenport-Jakela, Renard Davenport, both of Washington, PA, and Eadrik (Jodi) Davenport; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Durbin of Center Twp., PA and Shirley (Hal) Justice of Stow, OH; five sister-in-laws, Emma Jones, Hazel Bolling, Norma Collins, Florence Thomas and Sylvia Davenport.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by, husband, Charles Robert Davenport; two sisters, Pauline Strope and Mary Lou Bedilion; five brothers, Woodrow (Jack) Tharp, Kenneth Tharp, Carl Tharp, John F. Tharp, and Fredrick Tharp.

Friends will be received Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 2-4 P.M and 6-8 P.M. at Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC. 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy. Rogersville, PA 15359. 724-499-5181. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Robert Mooney, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakmont Cemetery, Waynesburg, PA.
