Alma Jean Guess, 85, of West Alexander, Pa. died at 6:17 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in Southmont at Presbyterian SeniorCare in Washington, Pa. after being seriously ill for the past several weeks.
She was born August 22, 1929 in West Finley Twp., Washington County, Pa. a daughter of the late Carl Dae and Thelma Sprowls Galentine and had resided in West Alexander most of her adult life.
Mrs. Guess was a member of the West Alexander United Methodist Church and was the valedictorian of the graduating class of 1946 from the former West Alexander High School.
She was an avid antique collector and restorer, enjoyed her family, reading, needlepoint and researching family history, knowing facts such as her father never owned a tractor, preferring to complete all his farm work with a team of horses.
On December 19, 1950 she married William Wray Guess, Jr. who died August 16, 2003.
Surviving are three sons, Jay, husband of Luz Guess of Stewartstown, Pa., Andy, husband of Shari Guess of Coppell, Texas and Ted Guess of West Alexander; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lynn Galentine of Washington and Donna Mellon of Apache Junction, AZ.; several nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are a daughter, Donna Ann Cosner who died in 2007; a granddaughter, Tiffany Jean Guess; two sisters, Olive Federoff and Geraldine Henry; three brothers, Robert, George and Harold Galentine.
At the request of the deceased all services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. The family suggests performing an act of kindness in memory of Mrs. Guess.
