Wilma Whiteman

Wilma K. Whiteman, 97, of Wind Ridge, Pa. died at 9:45 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2008 in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg, Pa. She was born February 25, 1911 in Richhill Twp. (Long Run), Greene Co. Pa. a daughter of Thomas Rose Kinney and Laura Belle Wendell Tharp Kinney Cooper. Mrs. Whiteman had resided in Snow Shoe, Pa. for 30 years prior to returning to Greene Co. in 1977. She was a member of the Wind Ridge Christian Church but had attended the Harmony U.P. Church in Wind Ridge for several years and was a 1929 graduate of the former Richhill Twp. High School. Mrs. Whiteman was also a member of the Richhill Twp. V.F.D. Auxiliary, American Legion Post 330 and the A.A.R.P. and enjoyed reading and quilting. She was employed by the former Headley and Spragg Drug Store and the Waynesburg Restaurant prior to being employed by Penn State University as a counter attendant in the cafeteria for 13 years prior to retiring in 1972. Mrs. Whiteman was a veteran of World War II where she served as a Tech 5 with the 63rd WAC Hospital Company and was proud of the nickname "Blue Angels" applied to the women in the medical support services. On March 7, 1946 she married Marlin (Muz) Roland Whiteman who died April 21, 1976. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her husband and parents are two sisters, Hallie Sauder and Doris Parsn; four brothers, Lloyd, Foster, Thomas and Everett Tharp.Mrs. Whiteman was the last of her immediate family. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Wind Ridge Christian Church or the Harmony U.P. Church, Wind Ridge, Pa. 15380.
