William J. Vath, Sr., 74, of Richhill Twp. Greene Co., Pa. died at 8:30 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2007 in his home after suffering with a cancer related illness since September 2006.Mr. Vath was born July 13, 1932 in Jersey City, N.J. a son of Henry George and Anna Margaret Laborsky Vath and had resided in Lakehurst, N.J. prior to moving to Greene County in February 1989.He was a member of Valley Chapel United Methodist Church and was a 1952 graduate of Lakewood (N.J.) High School.Mr. Vath was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army as a SP3 with B Btry 78 AFA BN. He was awarded the OCC Medal Ger, Good Conduct and National Defense Service Medals. He was a member of VFW Post 4793 of Waynesburg. Mr. Vath was a former member of Pyramid Lodge No. 92 of F.A.M., New Egypt, N.J. and was a member of Cameron Lodge No. 17 of F.A.M., Cameron, W.Va. and Royal Arch MasonsHe enjoyed singing country music, playing guitar, hunting and fishing.Mr. Vath was an eyewitness to the German airship Hindenberg explosion on May 6th, 1937 at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station in New Jersey.He was last employed as an engineer by GPU (First Energy) in New Jersey for 35 years prior to retiring in 1991.On May 26, 1991, he married Juanita Catherine Bungard Jackson Vath who survives.Surviving in addition to his wife are son, William J. Vath, Jr. husband of Amanda Vath; a daughter, Deborah, wife of Michael Ansell, all of Holbrook; four step children, Katherine, wife of Gary Renner of Holbrook, Cindy Sue, wife of Brian Anderson of Wind Ridge, Marvin Keith, husband of Sherri Jackson of Graysville and Melvin Lee, husband of Carol Jackson of Wind Ridge; one brother, Henry G. Vath, Jr., husband of Joyce Vath of Lakehurst, NJ; one sister, Lillian Joan, wife of John Panasewicz of Toms River, N.J.; one granddaughter, Ashlynn Hannah Ansell; two grandsons, Joseph Paul Vath and Braden Noah William Ansell.Deceased is a sister, Catherine Harrington.
