William F. Turnow, of Waynesburg, Pa. died at 2:15 a.m. Sunday, November 14, 2004 in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, Pa. after being in failing health for the past thirteen years. He was born in Mahanoy, Pa. a son of Clarence William and Mary Jane Bennett Turnow. Mr. Turnow had resided in McMurray and Aleppo prior to moving to Waynesburg in 1992. He was a 1932 graduate of Wyoming High School and a 1936 graduate of Penn State University (Bloomsburg Campus) and a veteran of the US Army where he served as a First Lieutenant in the Signal Corps during World War II. He was involved in patenting "True Motion" Radar for the Navy and Coast Guard. Mr. Turnow was formerly employed as high school teacher of trigonometry and chemistry in New York. He was employed by RCA in NYC from 1946 to 1958, and then was transferred to the Cinnaminson, NJ plant in 1958, prior to being transferred to the Meadowlands plant as an Electrical Design Engineer in Radar Monitoring Systems retiring in 1978. He enjoyed playing the organ, computers and bowling. On August 20, 1971 he married Nedra Marilyn Jones Swart Turnow who survives. Also surviving are his son, William F. Turnow, Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; two step sons, Gary Swart of Washington, Pa., Jeffrey Swart of Hurricane, W.Va.; two step daughters, Sandra Lahew of Wind Ridge, Marilynn Swart of Farmington, Pa.; eleven step grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren. Deceased are his first wife, Frances Theresa Meyer Turnow who died in 1968 and one sister, Alice Ettinger. He was the last of his immediate family. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer Foundation, 100 West Station Square Dr., Landmarks Building, Suite 500, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15219-1189 or a local charity of your choice.
