William (Bill) D. Grimes, 78, of Waynesburg, Pa. (East View), died at 6:45 a.m. Monday, September 6, 2010 in the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, Pa. after being in failing health for the past eight years.He was born April 16, 1932 in Waynesburg, Pa. a son of the late Orville Othello and Carrie Lee Orndoff Grimes.Mr. Grimes had been a resident of the East View area since 1952 where he was a member and former trustee, Sunday school superintendent and served on the nominating committee at Throckmorton United Methodist Church.He was a 1950 graduate of Center Township High SchoolMr. Grimes was a former member of the Graysville Knights of Pythias Lodge and was a member of the American Legion of the United States.He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served with the U.S. Army as a corporal with Co. K, of Waynesburg.Mr. Grimes enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising domestic birds, being outdoors and yard work as long as his health permitted.He was formerly employed as a truck driver by Penn D.O.T., Ace Doran Trucking and the former Greenway Shirt Factory prior to being employed as a deputy warden at the Greene County Jail for approximately 10 years before retiring in 1996. Following retirement he was employed as a tip-staff in the County Courthouse until 2002.On August 17, 1952 he married Carolyn Maxine Wood who survives.Also surviving are a daughter, Cynthia, wife of Edward (Butch) Deter of Rogersville; five sons, Rodney, husband of Susan Grimes of Jefferson (Kedive), Randy, husband of Tonja Grimes of East View, Dave, husband of Sandra Grimes of Spraggs, Mark, husband of Rhonda Grimes of Hopwood and Pastor Dan, husband of Kathy Grimes of West Alexander, Pa.; six grandchildren, Rachel, Sara, Jeremy and Becca Grimes, Amie Deter-Miller and Craig Deter; one great grandchild, Cameryn Deter; a brother, Charles, husband of Oneita Grimes of New Freeport; several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to his parents are a sister, Glenna Grimes; four brothers, Halfred B., George O., Forest O. and Leroy E. Grimes; a grandson, Adam Ray Grimes.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Throckmorton U. M. Church, c/o Ed Hanley, 413 Hargus Creek Rd, Waynesburg, Pa. 15370.Graveside military rites will be accorded by representatives of the U.S. Army and the American Legion Post 330, V.F.W.
