Violet Elizabeth Stockdale Gilbert of Waynesburg, died on June 22, 2006, after a lengthy, yet valiant battle with Alzheimers Disease. She was born on April 13, 1918, a daughter of Earl and Rachel Jones Stockdale. Mrs. Gilbert was baptized in Pine Bank Creek as a young adult. She was a former member of Claysville United Methodist Church and a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church, Holbrook, Pa.She attended Oak Shade Schools between Bluff and Pine Bank. On October 9, 1937 she married James Lloyd Gilbert, son of James and Sarah Bosworth Gilbert. They were married by Rev. Holfet at the First United Methodist Church Parsonage, in Waynesburg and celebrated 43 years of marriage, prior to Lloyd's death on September 10, 1980.While living in Claysville from 1955 to 1985, she was a member of many organizations including Mother's Club and the Evening Star Chapter of the O.E.S., Claysville, Pa., Cornerstone Genealogy, and Gasco Club. Violet and Lloyd were blessed with three daughters: Zenia Gilbert, Carolyn Hixenbaugh, and Montine (Blaine) Clutter. Her grandchildren, to whom she was lovingly known as "Bucky" are Nancy Yanneillo, Cheryl Wilson, Debbie Hixenbaugh, Tina Elizabeth Clutter and Michael Clutter. Her great grandchildren are Megan and James Wilson. Her sister, Faye Grimes Hunnell, survives. She was preceded in death by her brother Wayne, her sister Bonnie, and her son in law Bill Hixenbaugh.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church of Holbrook.
