Thomas Lee Johnson, 85, of New Freeport, Pa. died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in the Townview Nursing Home, Canonsburg, Pa. after being in failing health for the past few years.He was born February 20, 1924 in Marshall Co. (Boardtree), W.Va. a son of the late John Nelson and Gertrude Mary Pendergast Johnson.Mr. Johnson had resided in the New Freeport, Deep Valley and Aleppo areas all his life.He was a member of the Church of Christ at Sand Hill (Ned Ridge).Mr. Johnson loved all animals, enjoyed farming and raising pet chickens (whom he called by name), and was an avid gardener where he grew green beans and prize turnips which he shared with the community.He was last employed as a laborer with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.On October 9, 1945 he married Lorraine Postlewait who survives.Also surviving are two daughters, Sandra, wife of Adam Long of East Lake, Ohio and Flora (Cookie) Aberegg of New Freeport; a sister, Gertrude Gary of Canonsburg; four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to his parents are two brothers, Johnny, who died as an infant and Robert Johnson; three sisters, Nancy Porter, Annamay Johnson and Mildred Rhome.
