Samuel L. Phillips, 75, of Waynesburg, Pa. died unexpectedly at 7:45 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2009 from injuries received in an automobile accident.He was born August 20, 1933 in Wadestown, W.Va. a son of the late Tracey Earl and Myrtle Marie Cumberledge Phillips and has been a resident of the Waynesburg area most of his life.Mr. Phillips was a member of the Rolling Meadows Church of God.He was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of the base softball team.Mr. Phillips enjoyed watching his grandchildren sporting events, dartball and fishing.He was employed by Nickles Bakery in Washington as a driver salesman for 33 years prior to retiring in December 1995 and for the past 11 years has been employed as a station attendant by Jacobs Petroleum at the High Street Exxon in Waynesburg.On July 16, 1961 he married Connie Marlene Tharp who survives.Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Scott, husband of Vickie Phillips of Farmington; three daughters, Beth, wife of Bruce Kline of Elkton, MD, Traci, wife of James Ketchem of Jefferson and Becky Osborne at home; three sisters, Norma Miller of New Brighton, Jane Bosley of Ellwood City, Donna Phillips of Monaca and Donna Marie Miller of Mt. Morris; six grandchildren, Camber and Rusty Phillips, Alex and Ethan Kline, Cody and Alecia Ketchem; one great granddaughter, Alena Fischer.Deceased in addition to his parents is a brother, Earl Phillips.
