Roy E. Mahan, 76, of West Finley, Pa died at 1:28 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2006, in Washington Hospital.He was born February 23, 1930 in Richhill Twp., Greene Co., Pa. a son of Willard Roy and Lyssia Tilton Mahan and had resided in Richhill and East Finley Twps. prior to moving to West Finley where he resided most of his life.Mr. Mahan was a member and former trustee of Windy Gap Presbyterian Church in West Finley and was a 1948 graduate of Claysville High School. He was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a Pvt with the 3D Signal Company, 3d Infantry Division. Mr. Mahan was an employee of the former Mahan General Store in West Finley and was also employed by Moly-Corp in Washington for approximately 20 years and was last employed as a security guard by Burns Security at the Bailey Mine prior to retiring in 1992.Mr. Mahan was a charter member and former treasurer of the West Finley Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the West Finley Cemetery Association where he has served on the Board of Directors for over 20 years, and was a member of the West Finley Friendship Club.He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and meeting and talking to his neighbors as well as all aspects of being in the out of doors as long as his health permitted.On June 24, 1953, he married Joy Bernice Clutter Mahan who survives.Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Jay, husband of Lois Mahan and Daniel Mahan, all of West Finley, Pa; two daughters, Sue, wife of Mark Truelove of Scott Depot, W.Va. and Bernice, wife of Tom Clark of Wheeling, W.Va.; one brother, Dale Mahan of Washington, Pa.; one sister, Virginia Rockwell of Houston, Pa.; four grandchildren, Megan and Jessie Truelove, Shelby and Lance Clark; one step grandchild, Grace Sauerzopf.Deceased are a daughter, Jill Rebecca Mahan and one brother, Vernon Mahan.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Windy Gap Presbyterian Church, 132 Burnsville Ridge Rd., West Finley, Pa. 15377 or West Finley V.F.D.
