Roy A. Bennington, Sr., 59, of Holbrook, Pa. died at 10:10 p.m. Monday, October 16, 2006 in The Washington Hospital, Washington, Pa.He was born April 12, 1947 in Waynesburg, Pa. a son of the late Dawson James and Opal Millie Straight Bennington and had resided in Ohio for a brief time, but had been a resident of Jackson Twp. most of his life prior to moving to Center Twp. in 1992.Mr. Bennington had attended Waynesburg High School and the Rogersville United Methodist Church. He was formerly employed as a crane operator for Traft Construction in Connellsville, Pa. and was a former machine operator for Euclid Spiral Paper Tube in Cleveland, Oh. and was last employed as a school bus driver for Grim Bus Transportation prior to retiring in 1996.Mr. Bennington was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Waynesburg.He enjoyed coon hunting and raising and showing Belgian draft horses and was an avid West Greene and Steelers sports fan. Mr. Bennington was married to Deborah R. Sowden Carpenter Bennington who survives.Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Dude, husband of Lisa Brandt Bennington of Center Twp.; three daughters, Misty, wife of Jon Renner of Aleppo, Dana, wife of Gary Calvert of Waynesburg, and Jodie, wife of Danny Stoneking of Center Twp.; two stepsons, Greg, husband of Amanda Popelas Carpenter of Houston, Pa. and Chad, husband of Lauren Hanley Carpenter of Center Twp.; one stepdaughter, Stacey, wife of Joe Whipkey of Graysville, Pa.; one brother, William "Bill", husband of Cindy Bennington of Rogersville, Pa.; two sisters, Patricia Wright of Waynesburg, Pa. and Norma Lea, wife of Jack Keller of Cleveland, Oh.; fourteen grandchildren.Deceased in addition to his parents is one brother, James Straight.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Greene County, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, Pa. 15370.
