Robert L. Shipman, 80, of Washington Twp. (Ruff Creek), Greene Co. Pa. died Friday, December 7, 2012 in the Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, Pa. after a brief illness. He was born December 27, 1931 in Nottingham Twp. Washington Co. Pa. a son of the late Lawrence Paul and Cleda Ellen McCullough Shipman. Mr. Shipman was a member and former trustee of the Bethlehem Baptist Church at Ruff Creek. He attended Waynesburg High School. Mr. Shipman was veteran of the Korean Was where he served with the U.S. Army as a corporal in Company K, 23rd Infantry Regiment, and was awarded a Korean service medal with one bronze service star, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 153 F AM in Waynesburg, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of the Valley of Pittsburgh, the American Legion Post 330 in Waynesburg and the Waynesburg Moose Lodge. Mr. Shipman was formerly employed in pipeline construction and had served as a Washington Twp. Road Supervisor for 12 years, was also an employee of the former Russell McKee Tire Shop and the Mashuda Corporation. Mr. Shipman and his wife were the founding co-owners and operators of the former Shipman Sanitation Service and National Sanitation for over 30 years prior to retiring in 2004 and were also the former owners of the Oakmont Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Carmichael Shipman; a daughter, Debbie Stephenson of Ruff Creek; a son, Allan, husband of Bunny Shipman of New Freeport; seven grandchildren, James(JP) Hennen, Samantha (Sammy) McGlaughlin, Shauna, Keri, Will, Ava and Alden Shipman; two great grandchildren, Kaylee and Tyler McGlaughlin; a sister, Cora Ellen Phillips of Ruff Creek; two brothers, Dave, husband of Marilyn Shipman of Swarts, Pa. and Roy, husband of Vi Shipman of Washington; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Shipman of Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents are a granddaughter, Savannah (Fred) Hennen; two sisters, Irene Hughes and Mildred Taylor; two brothers, Paul and Ross Shipman.
