Robert Shields

Robert B. Shields, 76, of Rogersville, Pa. died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2003 in the Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, Pa. after a brief illness.He was born August 13, 1926 in Rogersville, Pa. a son of Robert Samuel and Lena Jane Huffman Shields and has resided in Rogersville all his life.Mr. Shields was a member of the Rogersville Christian Church.He enjoyed hunting and fishing as long as his health permitted.Mr. Shields was a 1944 graduate of Center Township High School.He was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Navy as a Gunner's Mate, Third Class.Mr. Shields was employed by the Penn D.O.T as an equipment operator for approximately 15 years prior to being employed by the Washington Stone Quarry as a heavy equipment operator for over 20 years prior to retiring in 1973.On January 7, 1952 he married Cora Myrle Hughes Shields who survives.Also surviving are four sons, Robert W. Shields of West Union, Pa., Michael L. Shields of Nineveh, Pa., John D. Shields of Waynesburg, Pa. and Mark A. Shields at home; seven grandchildren, Robert C., Charles M., Jessica E., Mark W., Melissa R., Nathan A. and Justin D. Shields; two great grandchildren.Deceased is one sister, Betty Ruth Littel.Mr. Shields was the last of his immediate family.Military rites will be accorded at the funeral home on Saturday, following the funeral service by V.F.W. Post 4793, American Legion Post 330 and the D.A.V. Post 123 all of Waynesburg, Pa.
