Robert L. Lantz, 83, of Rogersville, Pa. died unexpectedly at 12:45 a.m. Sunday, December 10, 2006 in his home.He was born May 22, 1923 in Gilmore Twp., Greene Co., Pa. a son of Lawrence Milton and Alta Opal Hughes Lantz and had resided in Washington prior to moving to Rogersville in 1949. Mr. Lantz was a member of the Rogersville United Methodist Church, a 1941 graduate of Waynesburg High School and a 1947 graduate of Cleveland College of Mortuary Science (part of the former Western Reserve College, Cleveland, Ohio). He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army as a Tec 4 with the 110th Station Hospital Medical Detachment and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Lantz served his funeral directing internship with the former Graham P. Cowieson Funeral Home in Washington, Pa. from 1949-1951 and was employed by the former Romaine Scott Funeral Service in Rogersville from 1951 until 1956 when he purchased the funeral home and operated as the Robert L. Lantz Funeral Home (now Rush Funeral Home, Inc.) until retiring in May 1985.He had been a member of the West Greene Area Lions Club since 1961 and was currently serving as the Tailtwister. He was a Golden Sheaf (50 year) member of the Harvey's Grange #1444 of Graysville, and a member of the Pomona and State Granges and was a member of the West Greene Senior Citizens.Mr. Lantz was a former Boy Scout leader in Rogersville and enjoyed being outdoors, flowers, yard work, traveling, studying history and enjoyed hunting in his younger years.On May 22, 1946, he married H. Jean Whipkey who survives.Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Dr. Clark, husband of Kris Lantz of Tucson, Az.; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Dill, wife of Brent Smith of Raleigh, NC., Rev. Ruth, wife of Rev. Keith Simmons of Morgantown, WV and Rebecca Baily of Waynesburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Amanda Dill Hines, Scott and James Dill, Shelly Lantz Akins, Rob Lantz, Jennifer Simmons Moss, Laura Simmons and Taylor Baily; four great grandchildren, T.J., Nathan and Abby Hines and Joel Akins.He was the last of his immediate family.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Lions Club Journey for Sight Program c/o Mr. Don Jarvis 3371 W. Roy Furman Hwy., Waynesburg, Pa. 15370 or to the Rogersville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 315, Rogersville, Pa. 15359.
