Richard P. Varner, 83, of Cameron and formerly of Richhill Twp. Greene Co., and Rogersville, Pa. died at 5:52 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 2006 in the Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, W.Va.He was born September 9, 1923 in Hagans, Monongalia County, W.Va., a son of John Oral and Dee Evelyn Shuman Varner and had resided in Monongalia County, W.Va. prior to moving to Richhill Twp. in 1969, and following retirement in 1994 moved to Rogersville, Pa. where he resided until 2004.Mr. Varner was a 1942 graduate of Morgantown High School and was a member of Hagans Christian Church in Hagans, W.Va. and attended Fairview United Methodist Church in Graysville, Pa.He was a self-employed farmer in Hagans, W.Va. and Richhill Twp. for 47 years prior to retiring in 1994.Mr. Varner was a former Adult 4-H Leader for 10 years in Ft. Martin, W.Va.He enjoyed the time spent with family and grandchildren, coon hunting and raising coon dogs.On July 27, 1946, he married Evelyn Rose Eddy Varner who survives.Also surviving are one son, Neal K., husband of Marcia Momyer Varner of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; five daughters, Joy L. wife of Robert Christopher of Cameron, W.Va., Sharon L. wife of Jack Lucey of Glen Easton, W.Va., Kathy, wife of Rev. Daniel Glover of Greenville, Oh., Colleen, wife of Daniel Lucey of Cameron, W.Va. and Lori, wife of Richard Miller of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; one sister, Bernice Eddy of Fairview, W.Va.; 20 grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Fairview United Methodist Church, 331 Poland Run Road, Graysville, Pa. 15337.
