Ralph E. Jackson, 73, of Cameron, W.Va. and formerly of Wind Ridge (Crabapple), Pa. died unexpectedly at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008 in the Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. He was born May 13, 1934 in Aleppo Twp. Greene Co. Pa. a son of Inez Leona Baker Jackson Phillips of Waynesburg, Pa. and the late Jasper L. Jackson and had resided in the Crabapple area from 1960 until moving to Cameron in 1993. Mr. Jackson was a member and former Trustee of the Fairview United Methodist Church at Graysville, Pa. and was a current member of board of directors of Fairview Cemetery. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served with the US Navy. Mr. Jackson was an avid hunter, gardener and Pittsburgh Steeler fan and also enjoyed attending high school sports programs and playing cinch. Mr. Jackson was a member of the Cameron Senior Citizens and a member and vice president of the West Greene Senior Citizens. He was a former employee of Standard Steel, owner operator of a service station in Warren, Ohio and was involved in the construction of the dam at Ryerson State Park, was a blaster on construction of I-70, truck driver for Carnation Milk Co. in Cameron, W.Va., self employed auto mechanic, a superintendent for T.B. Bross High Power Electric Construction and was last employed as an independent truck driver for 21 years with Liquid Transport Corp. of Indianapolis prior to retiring in 1999. He was named truck driver of the year in both 1982 and 1994. On June 5, 1954 he married Verna Imogene "Jeanne" Gilchrist who survives. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are three sons, Gary, husband of Johnna Jackson of Harrisonburg, Va., Brian, husband of Crystal Jackson of Holbrook, Pa. and Kevin, husband of Mary Jackson of Greencastle, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Morgan, Taylor, Alex, Grace, Beau, Bray, Benjamin, BreAnn and Brian A. Jackson; four brothers, Lee Jackson of Waynesburg, James Allen, husband of Peg Jackson of Waynesburg, Marvin, husband of Sherri Jackson of Graysville and Melvin, husband of Carol Jackson of Wind Ridge; two sisters, Kathy, wife of Gary Renner of Holbrook and Cindy, wife of Brian Anderson of Wind Ridge. Deceased in addition to his father is a brother, George Jackson. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Fairview U.M. Church, 331 Poland Run Rd.,Graysville, Pa. 15337.
