Perry “Weeds” Arthur Tharp, age 88, of Monaca, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 while under the care of Rochester Manor, Rochester, Pennsylvania.
Born on August 25, 1927, in Waynesburg, he is the son of the late Perry Lee and Prissicle (Jenny) Tharp.
Dear Father of Daniel S. Tharp, of Granbury, TX.,Joyce E. Sansky, of Granbury, TX. and Timothy A. Tharp, Monaca, PA.; Grandfather of Holly Tharp, Tracy Tharp, Jathan (Dayna) D’Antonio, Jamie (Brian) Pinamonti, Dawn (Jason) Trybulski, Abby (Andy) Glasser, Terry Sansky, Izzy Tharp and Mike Tharp; Great-Grandfather of Charlotte, Bella, Will, Lillian, Scarlett, Lennon and Elise; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was the last surviving member of his siblings, Gertrude, Olive, Jean, Ralph, Tom, Sam, S. Wayne and James.
Perry served his country in the United States Army from 1946-1948 as a Communication Sargent during World War II. He retired after 35 years as a foreman from J & L Steel Co. Perry served as a Deacon at North Branch Presbyterian Church, Monaca. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding quads. Perry was a member of the Greene Valley Sportsman's Club and P.N.A. Club. He was an author of children’s books and was an inventor in his own mind. He invented The Fishing Post and enjoyed working with perpetual motion creating his own works of “Art”. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his world. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends and family are welcome on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 2-6 P.M. at Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, Rogersville, PA. where a Funeral Service will also be held on Saturday, July, 9, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Deborah Huffmyer, officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery, Center Township.
