Paul Braddock

Paul M. Braddock, 90, of Wind Ridge, Pa. died at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 in the Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, Pa. surrounded by his loving family after being in seriously failing health since December. He was born April 6, 1918 in Waynesburg, Pa. son of Harry Iams and Gail King Braddock and had resided in the Wind Ridge area all his life except for the time spent building ships for the war effort and his time of service with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Braddock was a life long member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church in Wind Ridge where he served as and elder, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and a deacon. He was a 1937 graduate of the former Richhill Twp. High School in Wind Ridge and attended Duff's Business College in Pittsburgh. Mr. Braddock was a partner with his father and uncle of the former Braddock Brothers General Store in Wind Ridge for 30 years until selling the business in 1968, and was the owner and operator of Paul M. Braddock Heating and Plumbing for the next 23 years prior to retiring in 1991. And also raised beef cattle for several years. He enjoyed hunting and the time spent out of doors and was a self taught furniture and cabinet maker as long as his health permitted. Mr. Braddock was a veteran of World War II where he served as a private in the U.S. Marine Corps. in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was member of the American Legion Post 330, D.A.V. Post 123 and a charter member of the V.F.W. Post 4793 all in Waynesburg and was also a charter member of the Richhill V.F.D. where he served as president, secretary, treasurer and fire chief and had served as an EMT with the Richhill Twp. Ambulance Service for several years. He was a member and current President of Jacksonville Cemetery Association and a member of the Wind Ridge Sportsmans Club. On December 26, 1946 he married Ruth Smith who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Harry Leon Braddock and Paul Alan, husband of Peggy Braddock all of Holbrook, Pa. and Phillip C., husband of Charlene Braddock of Waynesburg; one sister, Ruth, wife of Duane Iams of Monroeville, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Harmony Presbyterian Church, PO Box 15, Wind Ridge, Pa. 15380. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 330, V.F.W. Post 4793 and the D.A.V. Post 123 all of Waynesburg and representatives of the U.S. Marine Corps.
