Oliver "Ollie" S. Stockdale

Oliver “Ollie” S. Stockdale, age 87, of Waynesburg, PA, passed away Friday, May 17, 2019 at Paramount Senior Living – Bethel Park, PA, with his family by his side.

Born August 15, 1931 in Waynesburg, PA, he is the son of the late Hillard and Sarah (Hoge) Stockdale.

Oliver was a Greene County resident his whole life. He graduated from West Greene High School in 1949. Oliver was a former member of the First Christian Church in Waynesburg, PA. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Tech Sergeant where he received a Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. Oliver was also a former member of a local country band. He was a member of the Liar’s Table at Hardee’s in Waynesburg. Oliver married Carolyn Dixie (Phillips) Stockdale on October 27, 1956 and they were happily married for 63 years. He was an employee at Alltel for 30 years as a Supervisor until he retired in 1991. Oliver enjoyed music, playing the guitar and other instruments, singing, gardening, which his family said he had a green thumb and could make anything grow, coin collecting and going to the flea markets. He liked the company of everyone that crossed his path, he never met a stranger. Oliver loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Greg (Nancy) Stockdale, of Newark Valley, NY, Erin (Brad) Patterson, of Waynesburg, PA, and Beth Sadlek, of McKees Rock, PA; seven grandchildren, Kari Stockdale, Jennifer Stockdale, Emily Fraas, Lauren Patterson, Ian Patterson, Nate Sadlek and Olivia Sadlek; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Alberta Main, of Waynesburg, PA.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC. 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy. Rogersville, PA 15359. Telephone: 724-499-5181. A funeral service will be held directly after the visitation with Pastor Larry Douglas, officiating. A graveside service will follow with full military honors at Rosemont Cemetery, Center Twp. PA, conducted by the United States Army, Waynesburg American Legion Post #330 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 4793.
