Melvin Cooke

Melvin Cooke, 90, of Waynesburg, Pa. and formerly of Center Twp., Greene Co. Pa. died at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2010 in the Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg.He was born March 27, 1919 in Waynesburg, Pa. a son of the late Thomas Byron and Gladys Roberts Cooke and had resided in Center Twp. from 1941 until returning to Waynesburg in 2007.Mr. Cooke was a member of the Trinity Independent Baptist Church in Waynesburg and a member of the West Greene Senior Citizens.He enjoyed farming and raising a garden and yard work as long as his health permitted.Mr. Cooke was last employed as a truck driver for National Sanitation Service in Republic, Pa. prior to retiring in 1984.On January 10, 1940 he married Dorothy Grace Hatfield who survives.Also surviving are three sons, Robert, husband of Barbara Cooke of Blacksville, W.Va., Earl B. (Jack), husband of Janice Cooke and Jerry, husband of Linda Cooke both of Waynesburg; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren.Deceased are a grandson, Scott Cooke; a great granddaughter, Desiree Brosovich; a sister, Mae Edgar.Mr. Cooke was the last of his immediate family.
