Max B. McMillen, 82, of Jackson Twp., Greene Co., Pa. died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2007 in the Southwest Regional Medical Center, Franklin Twp., Pa. though in failing health for the past year, death was unexpected.He was born May 9, 1924 in North East Madison Twp., Perry Co., Pa. a son of Preston Albon and Eva Pauline Lesh McMillen and had resided in Greene County since 1949.Mr. McMillen was a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church in Wind Ridge, Pa. where he had previously served as a deacon, choir member, Sunday school teacher and a commissioned Elder and Lay Pastor of the Presbyterian Church USA. He attended the Sandy Hill one room elementary school and graduated from the Blain Vocational High School (Perry County) in 1942. He was a 1949 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Agriculture Education and earned a Masters degree of Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1954, where he also earned his principal and guidance counseling certificates. He earned his certificate in Industrial Arts from California University of Pennsylvania. He was a life member of the Alpha Tau Alpha Honorary fraternity and the Delta Theta Sigma Agricultural fraternity. And was also a life member of the Greene Association of School Retirees. Mr. McMillen began his teaching career as a vo-ag teacher at the former Richhill Township High School and at the creation of West Greene School District, he served as a Guidance counselor and English teacher and was the first Industrial Arts teacher and set up the Industrial Arts department, developed the first curriculum guide and student council handbook, and later served as the High School Principal for several years prior to being named the district's first curriculum coordinator prior to retiring in 1985. Following retirement, he continued as the youth education sponsor until 2005.He was a board member of the Greene County United Way, a former director and the current membership chairman of the Greene County Farm Bureau, and a current board member and former president of the Greene County Sunday School Association. He was currently serving as the Jackson Twp. Republican committeeman. On August 6, 1949, he married Martha Jane Wickard McMillen who survives.Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Mark E., husband of Charlotte Courtwright McMillen of West Finley; four daughters, Myleen, wife of Phillip McCollum of Sycamore, Melinda, wife of Allen Huffman of Waynesburg, Marcia, wife of Richard A. Sonneborn of West Finley and Melanie, wife of Bernard Lauer of Damascus, Md.; two brothers, J. Clyde, husband of Martha McMillen and Clair, husband of Sara McMillen, all of Loysville, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Seann McCollum, Mikayla Sonneborn, Adam, Seth and Jared Laurer, Sylvia Cline, Christy, Joel and Daniel McMillen; two great grandchildren, Julia and Hannah McCollum.Deceased are a infant grandson, Eric Paul McMillen; a sister, Lois Leukel; three brothers, Clee McMillen who died in infancy, Meade and Perry McMillen.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Harmony Presbyterian Church, Attn: Treasurer, P.O.
